The Saami Council is one of six Permanent Participants of the Arctic Council. The Arctic and Environment Unit participates in the activities of the Arctic Council and its working groups to ensure that the Saami perspective and interests are cared for.

The Saami Council also participates in the work of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
