Pirita Näkkäläjärvi
Pirita Näkkäläjärvi (Iskku-Máhte Biret ja Čiskke-Ánne-Máreha Biret) from Inari, Sápmi, has a unique profile combining a high-profile international business career and indigenous rights advocacy. Currently she is working as a Mergers & Acquisitions Director at Helen, one of Finland's biggest energy companies, and previously she was with PwC, Nokia, Merrill Lynch, Metso Oyj and Booz & Company. Pirita Näkkäläjärvi is an elected member of the Sámi Parliament in Finland, and a vocal advocate for Sámi rights. In 2012‒2017, she headed the Sámi-language arm of the Finnish Broadcasting Company. Pirita Näkkäläjärvi holds MSc in Economics from Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, and MSc in Media and Communications (with Distinction) from London School of Economics (LSE), UK. At LSE, her MSc Dissertation focused on threats to the freedom of speech of the indigenous people Sámi in Finland.
