Announcement of Jevgenij Jushkov Memorial Fund – Scholarship 2024

The Saami Council has established a Memorial Fund to honor the work and life of Jevgenij Jushkov. The purpose of the fund is to motivate and support Sámi from the Russian side of Sápmi who want to take Sámi language education.

The education can be in any of the 10 Sami languages, and can take place in either Finland, Norway, Russia or Sweden. The support can take the form of study grants, support for the purchase of teaching materials or to cover other costs related to the education.

We now announce open the first round of grant applications. A short motivational letter describing the educational plans and estimated costs related to it, can be sent to:

Deadline: February 29th 2024

Please note that only Sámi from the Russian side of Sápmi can apply for a grant. Organizations or institutions cannot apply for support. The board of the Memorial Fund decides whether the applications are approved or rejected. Applicants are notified in writing of the decision. The decisions cannot be appealed.

Important notification: Due to the current geopolitical situation and restrictions, the Saami Council can not transfer money to Russian bank accounts at the moment.
