Eirik Larsen will lead the Sami Council's work regarding human rights

 The Saami Council has hired Eirik Larsen - Lásse-Ivvár Erke as head of the Saami Council's human rights department. Larsen is a lawyer and comes from Skánik / Skånland. He takes up the position on August 7, 2023.

– Eirik Larsen has extensive experience from work with indigenous people's human rights both at a national and international level, and from various roles. We are very pleased to benefit from his solid competence, says Áile Jávo, Secretary General of the Sami Council.

For the last five years, Larsen has been a political advisor to the Sámi Parliament Council in Norway. He has previously worked on Sámi issues in the departments in Norway, and is also well acquainted with the Saami Council from before when he acted in the position he is now taking up in 2017.

– I look forward to being part of the Saami Council's work, and am glad for the opportunity to work for a Saami organization and with issues that I am deeply committed to. Human rights are under pressure, and the Saami civil society has a very important role in protecting and promoting both Saami and other indigenous peoples' human rights, says Eirik Larsen.
