Eva Maria Fjellheim from Snåase/Rosse is employed to work on research issues
The Saami Council has employed Eva Maria Fjellheim as a co-worker for the EU unit where she will mainly work with research issues.
Fjellheim holds a Master in Development Studies and Human Geography, and currently pursues a PhD in Indigenous Studies. She has a broad background from working with Indigenous peoples’ issues in Sápmi and Latin-America, focusing on Indigenous peoples’ land rights and conflicts caused by extractive industries. Her PhD research concerns green colonialism and resistance to the wind energy industry on Saami reindeer herding lands.
“I am concerned with Indigenous peoples’ decolonial struggles, especially to safeguard our ancestral lands and livelihoods. Research is one of many tools for Saami and Indigenous peoples to pursue self-determination and emancipation from colonial injustice. I am excited to work towards improving research structures, processes and relations in ways which respect our knowledges, needs, and rights”, says Fjellheim.
