The Saami Council Calls for Nominations for the 2024 Literature Award

Sara Vuolab won the Sámi Literature Prize 2022.

The Saami Council is calling for nominations for the 2024 Literature Award. The Literature Award aims to inspire people to write in Saami. In addition, it brings fame to writers and makes Saami literature known. Literature Prize is being awarded alternately for a book for children and young people or adults. The 2024 literature award will be given to a book for children and young people in the Sami language.

The prize-winning book must be a fiction book in one of the Sami languages, such as a novel, drama, poems, short stories, or a collection of essays. The prize cannot be awarded to a biography or story collection. The book to be awarded must have been published during the last four years between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2023. The original language of the award-winning book must be Sami. The prize cannot be awarded for books translated to Sami. An exception may be made for minority Sami languages because only a few books are published in these languages. If the publishing house nominates a translated book, we ask you to inform us. The expert group decides if translated books are accepted for nomination or not. The nominations must be accompanied by five (5) books for the jury. A jury will make a decision on who wins the award.

Please send the nominations to the Saami Council no later than 15 March 2024 to:

Sámiráđđi – Samerådet,

Postboks 162,

N-9735 Kárášjohka,
