Discussion paper "Working towards ethical guidelines for research involving the Sámi"

Áslat Holmberg has on behalf of the Saami Council written the discussion paper "Working towards ethical guidelines for research involving the Sámi". The paper is attached. The discussion paper points to various work that has already been done about research ethics in Sápmi, a short description of similar work that has been done in some other indigenous peoples' areas and how ownership rights and self-determination also affects the research sector.

In the last chapters, 5-7, you will find the concrete proposals for a way forward on developing potential guidelines.

The Saami Council will invite you to comment on the discussion paper in order to get suggestions on how you as saami research community see the issue. Written proposals should be returned to us by 15.11.2022. Please send your written comments to: rune.fjellheim@saamicouncil.net

We have also initiated a cooperation between Sámi Allaskuvla and us to have a workshop based on the report on 22.-23.11.2022 in Kautokeino. Please save the date . More information about the workshop will come from us and Sámi Allaskuvla soon.

If you know others that might have an interest in the topics, please forward this message to them also.

Your contribution will be collected ant presented during the workshop and used in our work onwards on Saami research ethics.
