Summary: Per Olof Nutti has been devoted to reindeer husbandry all his life. He was born and raised into a reindeer husbandry family, a traditional livelihood that continues with his wife and their seven children. Per Olof is an excellent artist, craftsman, and fisherman. In his political positions, Per Olof has demonstrated a good ability to listen to people. He was the chairperson of Geaggán - Könkämä Sámi reindeer herding community for three terms from 1989-2006. He served as a member of the Sámi Parliament (Sweden) for two terms 2013-2021, the second term as chair of the board. Per Olof has been a member of the Saami Council from 2011-2015 and again from 2022 to present. Per Olof Nutti is the current President of the Saami Council.
Full bio: Per Olof Nutti has been a lifelong advocate and practitioner of reindeer husbandry, a traditional Sámi livelihood deeply rooted in his family and culture. Born and raised in a reindeer herding family, he has carried forward this heritage alongside his wife and their seven children. In addition to his role as a reindeer herder, Per Olof is an accomplished artist, skilled craftsman, and avid fisherman, expressing his connection to the land and Sámi culture through his many talents.
Throughout his political career, Per Olof has been recognized for his strong leadership and attentiveness to the Sámi community's voices. He served as the chairperson of the Geaggán-Könkämä Sámi reindeer herding community for three consecutive terms, from 1989 to 2006, where he worked tirelessly to uphold and advocate for reindeer herding rights and practices.
His dedication to Sámi representation continued in the Sámi Parliament of Sweden, where he served two terms from 2013 to 2021, including his second term as chair of the board. Per Olof's contributions extended to the Saami Council, where he was an active member from 2012 to 2017 and rejoined in 2022. Currently, he holds the esteemed position of President of the Saami Council, guiding the organization in its mission to advance Sámi rights and protect Sámi culture and livelihood across Sápmi.
