Announcement: Become a Trainee at the Saami Council

Are you interested in working with Sámi issues? Do you want to work at the international Indigenous level? Would you like to gain work experience in a Sámi working environment? The Saami Council is now opening a full-time, paid trainee position lasting 6 months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.

We are looking for an engaged person with an interest in and competence for promoting Sámi culture across national borders. Knowledge of Sámi society will be emphasized. In addition, we value collaboration and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently, purposefully, and in an organized manner. As a trainee, you will get to know our organization and the Sámi civil society, and you will take part in both administrative tasks and other activities related to the Saami Council’s areas of work. The position may involve some travel.
The workplace is the Saami Council office in Kárášjohka.
Salary and start date by agreement.

The Saami Council is a voluntary, independent cultural and political cooperation body for Sámi organizations in Finland, Norway, the Russian Federation, and Sweden. Its main goal is to safeguard Sámi rights and interests as one people and to strengthen Sámi unity across borders. The Council also works internationally to promote and protect the rights of the Sámi and other Indigenous peoples. It has four thematic units: Arctic and Environmental Affairs, Human Rights, Culture, and EU Affairs.
