A Growing Presence: The Saami Council Expands Its Role in EU Forums

The work to strengthen Sámi influence in EU policy development by highlighting Sámi knowledge, particularly in sustainability and circular economy continues. In 2025, interviews were conducted within reindeer herding, duodji, and coastal and marine livelihoods to document how Sámi perspectives can contribute to the EU’s work on climate, biodiversity, and resource management. The project also took part in several EU platforms and forums, and engaged Sámi youth in policy processes through webinars and the Arctic Youth Dialogue. SIKE published its first policy brief and continues to reinforce the Saami Council’s role as an important actor in the EU’s work on the Arctic, sustainable development, and Indigenous rights.
