Where are the Sámi men? Can we talk about a modern, queer Sámi history? What is the standing of Indigenous feminism today? These are some of the questions asked by Anne Wuolab in Dásseárvopod - a new podcast exploring topics connected to gender and equality in Sápmi today.
ReCap ASáp: Regaining capacity in a changing Sápmi presents a new podcast series looking at different topics related to gender in Sápmi.
“Gender and equality are topics that are always relevant to talk about. In this podcast, we highlight perspectives that are not always given space, but which are important for the development of our society.” says Anne Wuolab, host of the podcast.
As a part of the Interreg Aurora financed project ReCap ASáp - Regaining capacity in a changing Sápmi, has six Knowledge Hubs invited knowledge holders and experts to discuss topics that are relevant for the development of the Sámi civil society. One of these Knowledge Hubs has been on the topic of gender in Sápmi, and has been led by Anne Wuolab. This podcast is the result of this Knowledge Hub.
Through seven episodes Wuolab invites knowledge holders and experts to a conversation about gender and equality today. Topics such as the Sámi man, equality in reindeer husbandry, and Sámi gender research are raised, which are also topics important for the development of the Sámi society.
Anne Wuolab, podcast host
“The conversations we have had in the Knowledge Hubs shows that there is still a need to talk about these topics in Sápmi,” continues Wuolab, and hopes that the podcast will contribute to a continued conversation about gender and equality in Sápmi, also in the public arenas.
The podcast consists of seven episodes. The episodes will either be in Northern Sámi or Swedish/Norwegian. A short, written summary in other languages will be available.
