Call for nominations to Saami Council’s Honorary Award

The Saami Council is now inviting the public to send in their nominations for the Saami Council’s Honorary Award. The last Honorary Award was awarded Ole Henrik Magga during the 21st Saami Conference in Tråante – Trondheim in 2017. 

Anyone can nominate candidates for the award, and anyone can be nominated. The award is presented to a person, organization, association or institution in honorable recognition of their efforts for the best of the Saami People.

Efforts that:

  • strengthen the cohesiveness and sense of unity of the Saami people

  • help to maintain traditions, way of life, way of thinking, language and other immaterial traditions of the Saami

  • maintain and develop the above mentioned also in relation to today's society

The award will be awarded at the 22. Saami Conference in Gällivarre in October 2021. The deadline for nominations is February 19 2021.

  • 1986 Lars Pirak

  • 1992 Mari Boine

  • 1999 Kola Sámi Association

  • 2008 Susanna Angéus-Kuoljok
