KulturSápmi to be held digitally 3.–4. 11. 2020
The Saami Council has partnered up with the Sami Parliament in Norway and Innovation Norway to hold the digital conference KulturSápmi 3.-4. November 2020. The program and registration is available at www.kultursapmi.com.
KulturSápmi is an annual meeting place for the arts- and cultural field in Sápmi and was first held in Giron – Kiruna in 2019. Due to the corona pandemic, this year’s KulturSápmi will be held digitally with a number of sneak peeks on ongoing art- and cultural projects in the making, and also inspiring talks on opportunities and challenges for the cultural field in Sápmi.
– We are very proud to have talented musicians and artists such as Sofia Jannok, Joar Nango, Roman Yakolev, Hildá Länsman, Emil Karlsen, and many others on this year’s program. We have also initiated a cooperation with Valy lyd, lys og scene so that we are able to provide a high-quality conference production to the participants, says Christina Hætta, the leader of the cultural unit of the Saami Council.
The main objective of KulturSápmi is to build networks across national borders, develop a unified cultural field, and inspire more cooperation.
– We hope and believe that we are still able to achieve this despite the fact that KulturSápmi is being held digitally this year, says Hætta.
Challenges across borders
In this year’s program, you’ll also find “kitchen table talks” where the sámi cultural field can discuss and provide input on challenges unique for the sámi arts- and cultural field.
– How does the corona pandemic affect the cultural field on the Russian side of Sápmi, and what measures should be implemented? Are the national and sámi cultural funds tailored to the needs of the sámi cultural field and how can we improve? This is only some of the questions we want to discuss and receive input on, says Hætta.
The conference will be held digitally and prior registration is required through www.kultursapmi.com. The languages used during the conference will be northern Sami, Swedish/Norwegian, English, and Russian, and there will be interpretation to and from these languages.
