Saami Council is hosting three Sámi youth webinars on environmental issues
In Sápmi we are facing rapid climate change, and the threat of increased industrialization. Across the national borders we are facing many of the same issues.
The Saami Council would like to invite sámi youth to a series of three short workshops to give input to different projects we are working on, and to make an arena where Sámi youth can find strength in each other's struggles.
The first workshop will be on the tool CLEO, a way for people to register information about their local environment. The tool has been a success in Alaska, and has mostly been used to detect climate change. The question we want to ask is therefore, can we use this tool in Sápmi?
The topic of the second workshop will be waste management and plastic waste. The Saami Council wants to share information about our project on waste management in rural areas on the Kola Peninsula. The question for discussion is, can we use this knowledge for projects in the rest of Sápmi as well.
The last workshop will be on environmental struggles across Sápmi. We want to invite the youth organizations across Sápmi to share information on what they are working on, and to have a discussion on what the Saami Council can do to facilitate youth engagement across the borders.
