The Sámi art and culture field will gather in Inari for the KulturSápmi conference on September 20-22. The event's focus is works in progress in the Sámi art and culture sector and the burning questions of the sector. This year's theme in the KulturSápmi is truth, reconciliation, and decolonization. 150 people have registered for the event. The event will take place on the Finnish side for the first time.
In KulturSápmi, you can hear and learn about current art and culture topics from all over the Sápmi. There will also be a scenario workshop that will consider the state of Sámi art and culture today if colonization had not happened. The workshop includes, e.g., Katarina Barruk, Outi Pieski, Mary Ailonieida Sombán, Harald Gaski, and Petra Laiti. In addition, KulturSápmi offers you an opportunity to watch and discuss Suvi West's recent film Máhccan – Homecoming. Other artists in the program with their current projects are Niillas Holmberg, Auri Ahola, Lada Suomenrinne, and SámiDáiddačehpiid searvi. In addition, Jouni Laiti, Anders Svonni, and Nils-Johan Labba participate in a discussion that deals with the situation and future of the garra duodji.
Dáiddadállu opens the first day of KulturSápmi
Dáiddadállu - Sámi Artist Network participates in this year's KulturSápmi event and puts Sámi art and artists at the center of the conference day. They invite participants to face the artistic welcome and continue the afternoon program with workshops and a discussion arena. Through the workshop, it is possible to discuss experiences and thoughts that may arise in different artistic contexts.
