The Saami Council Has Published a New Grant Format – Invites the Sámi Cultural Sector to Apply for Grants
The Saami Council has published a new grant form called Dalán-doarjja (Immediate grant). The new grant has been created to support the Sámi arts and culture sector in unexpected, urgent, and time-bound events. A surprising opportunity can be, for example, participation in a festival, concert, exhibition, course, or other significant art and culture event for which it may not have been possible to apply for funding elsewhere. The maximum amount of a Dalán grant is 20,000 NOK. The application periods for the Dalán grant are three times a year; in 2025, they are in March, May, and September. The Dalán grant is not awarded for activities or investments already implemented. The new grant form will be tested in 2025 and developed based on grant recipients' feedback. The first Dalán grant application period of the year ends on March 15, 2025, at 11:59 pm (CEST).
- We receive applications for cultural grants every year outside the application period. Most often, it is an opportunity that has suddenly arisen for which the applicant has not been able to prepare in advance. We hope that the new grant format will meet these challenges. The Dalán grant aims to be flexible and straightforward, and we hope that it will help us support the Sámi arts and culture sector more effectively. Let's see how the new grant works and develop it according to needs, says Unna-Maari Pulska, Cultural Secretary of the Saami Council.
In addition to Dalán grants, the Saami Council distributes project grants, travel scholarships, and one-year working scholarships. Application forms for other grants will be opened in late spring. The Saami Council's Cultural Committee decides on the distribution of cultural grants.
