Become a mentor in the Home Residency Programme

Contribute to strengthening duodji and Sámi entrepreneurship by sharing knowledge and experiences across generations.

Sápmái Buorrin is looking for an experienced duojár or Sámi entrepreneur to take on the role of mentor in the Ruoktu Residency Programme – a home residency where duodji, creativity, and Sámi ways of working are at the core.

The programme runs for three months and is aimed at active duojárat and Sámi entrepreneurs across Sápmi who wish to further develop their work and expressions. In ruoktu – within their own context, participants deepen their ideas and develop their work while engaging in shared learning and exchange.

As a mentor, you support and guide participants by sharing your knowledge and experience, contributing to a context where knowledge, tradition, and new expressions grow together.

    • Following a group of duojárat and Sámi entrepreneurs throughout the programme

    • Planning and implementing the mentorship together with Sápmái Buorrin

    • Holding regular digital mentoring sessions (gáfestallamat)

    • In-person gatherings at the beginning and end of the programme

    • Supporting participants in developing their ideas and work

    • Contributing to a shared context for knowledge exchange and reflection

    • Has experience as a professional duojár or Sámi entrepreneur

    • Has experience of working across borders within Sápmi

    • Has experience of duodji and working with materials, form, and tradition

    • Has strong communication skills and is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively

    A good ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written is required, because the participants are from Finland, Sweden and Norway. Language skills in Sámi is an asset.

  • The programme runs from October to December 2026. The assignment corresponds to a full-time position for three months and includes preparation, implementation, and follow-up of the mentorship.

    It includes in-person gatherings at the beginning and end of the period, as well as regular digital meetings in between (gáfestallamat).

    Compensation is paid as agreed. 

    The position will be under the Sámi Duodji - Sameslöjdstiftelsen within the Sápmái Buorrin project.
