The Saami Council has hired Anna-Marja Persson as a project manager for the Arctic and Environmental Unit where she will be working together with Gunn-Britt Retter. Persson is from Bååhne/Hosjöbottnarna, and is currently residing in Romsa/Tromsø. Persson holds a Master’s degree in management of fish and wildlife populations, and a Bachelor’s degree of animal welfare and ethology.
– I was born and raised in a reindeer herding district in the southern parts of Swedish Sápmi, so nature management has always been an important part of my life. I look forward to work on these issues in the Saami Council, says Persson.
Anna-Marja Persson is a project manager for the project “Wetlands in Sápmi”, which is a part of the larger project: “Arctic Wetlands Ecosystems – Resilience through restoration stewardship”. The goal of the project is to increase knowledge about wetland use and protection in reindeer herding areas. Saami Council is co-leading the work package “Indigenous uses and stewardship of wetlands ecosystems”. The project is part of the Conservation of Arctic and Fauna (CAFF) working group in the Arctic Council.
She will also be working on a project about impacts of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems.
